Islamia College Launches 2-Credit Integrated Skills Courses Under NEP Guidelines

Srinagar, October 22: Having the honor of being the first college in UT of J&K to implement NEP 2020, the college has added another feather to its hat by being the first college to offer 2-credit integrated skills courses according to NEP guidelines for 1st and 2nd semester students.
In line with the vision of the Department of Higher Education, the college offers a basket of skills courses that will give our students an edge in acquiring a skill that will allow them to earn while learning as the courses have been prepared taking into account market demand. Some of the courses offered include hydrophony, no-code application development, essential oil extraction, fermentation biotechnology, aromatherapy, computerized accounting, creative writing in English, technology mining, energy, repair and maintenance of power supply, inverter and inverter, computational mathematics, etc.
The college also intends to launch optional skills certificate courses in the near future in conjunction with the relevant sector skills councils. For launching certificate courses in Software Development and Computer & Networking Hardware, the college has completed the process and is signing an MOU with NASSCOM and ESSCI in the near future.
In another first, the college adhered to its academic calendar and ensured that the academic journey of students in the 2019 batch was completed according to the set deadlines despite challenges like Covid-19. The 2019 batch has completed its programs within a set timeframe the outcome of which was announced today October 22, 2022. Final transcripts will be released from November 2.
To facilitate exits from the college and in line with the vision of Digital India, an Online Certificate Verification Module (IC-OCVM) has been incorporated into the college website. The said facility has been operationalized to ensure hassle-free and timely verification for student progress. To reach out to our students for their holistic development, the college has introduced Student Mentoring for Semester-I of the 2020 batch with immediate effect.
The college will roll out more initiatives in the near future in the areas of automation, innovation, skills and entrepreneurship.
