Team Saaf Water wins the world award
The Saaf Water team – made up of Manikanta Chavvakula, a second year student from FLAME University, Hrishikesh Bhandari from IIT Madras, Satyam Prakash from IIT Madras, Sanket Marathe and Jay Aherkar – were the global winners of IBM Call for Code Global Challenge 2021. A A panel of eminent leaders in sustainability, business and technology awarded Team Saaf Water the grand prize of $ 200,000. It is the first Indian team to win the title. Saaf Water is an open source AI-IoT platform that will help in timely monitoring of groundwater and educate authorities as well as the community on water quality as well as purification methods for consumption. It also predicts when water quality will deteriorate and helps reduce reliance on manual test kits or lab tests for rough evaluation.

IIT Roorkee celebrates 175 years
The Roorkee Indian Institute of Technology began its 175th anniversary celebration on November 25 in the presence of Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education, Skills Development and Entrepreneurship. The institution was founded in 1847 as the first engineering school in the British Empire and has many initiatives to its credit in engineering education, research and development (R&D), impact societal and international collaborations.
